For most conditions, a mid-length or shortboard works well. Don’t bother to bring a longboard, I have longboards available to rent. Bring a good 4”3 wetsuit or a 5”4 and booties if you chill easy. For summer bring a additional 3”2 to surf the warmer spots in False Bay.

Winter (June to August) is Cape Town’s big wave season, with powerful swells generated by South Atlantic storms. It’s the most consistent season. However, you don’t need to bring your gun, as there are always option to surf regular waves at swell protected spots.
